The Writer's Hotel (and Other Things Like Cheddar in the Clam Chowder)

Image
At the beginning of June, I attended The Writer's Hotel in Phippsburg, MA. This was my first trip to Maine. It very much reminded me of home in the PNW (well, in some ways) with all the green and water. It is always nice to get away from the City and its busyness. I was in Elizabeth Hand's group, where I workshopped the first pages of my newest novel and got some great feedback. Naturally, I'm excited to dive back into this horror/thriller and keep it moving! View from the resort room at Sebasco. I also participated in the reading, after chickening out on my assigned night. It happens. It's not that I have stage fright (I do). It's mostly that I hate being perceived, which makes life difficult at times. In all honesty, I probably would have been fine if it were karaoke night. I do love me some karaoke.  Reading from my YA Fantasy (Photo credit: Rachel B. Moore) Also, in exciting news, I've been asked back to The Writer's Hotel 2026 as a TA ! I'm so excit...

Under a Rabbit Moon

Welp, it's been...a bit since my last post! I want to aggressively move forward lately, but I'd also like to stay in bed. So, I'm sitting here trying to write, getting a better image of a ghost of an idea, while also thinking of the places writing still has to take me this year. And how I wish I were there writing now. Under the Volcano seems like a lifetime ago, but wouldn't it be amazing to be in TepotzlΓ‘n now, writing on a patio looking out to the Volcano?  Tepoz is one of those magical places, literally.

Picture it. Seattle. 19🀐. Your favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon is Rainbow Brite, and your mother, a great seamstress (seriously - this is not an exaggeration), promises to make you the best Rainbow Brite costume... AND she freaking did!  I still can't get over the wig made of yarn and how poofy the dress was. What a night. I've never had a better costume! This, in fact, became a family costume as my cousin would wear it the following year. I think she might have won a costume prize! All that reminiscing to say, I hope you all are enjoying the magic of this night! πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

I recently took a trip to Seattle, my hometown. It was nice to be back there and to be able to do some of the touristy stuff you don't do at places when you call them home. My friends and I headed down to Pike Place Market, and in one of the cool, creepy, magic, majestic shops, I found this dude or dudette. The moment I believed they could have landed in Seattle all the way from Mississippi, I could not resist. I knew they had to come home with me. I'm still looking for the perfect spot to put them in my home, but boy, what a beauty! 😍

Thunderous Scavenging

Here Comes the Storm... Last Tuesday, I spent some time with the witches, learning about the local flora and their magical properties. After living in Chicago for over four years, this was my first time visiting Bunker Hill. It was a massive chunk of land, and though I'm still confused as to where the hill is (this girl is from Seattle and lived in SF,  I know a thing or two about hills), I had a fantastic time and hope to make the trek back as soon as possible! The next time, though, I would prefer not to be caught in a thunderstorm while crossing a vast plain of a field. It was like being in the largest MMA ring and waiting to be struck down! I'll keep enjoying my thunderstorms from the comfort of my home! Before the Storm... Green Dress & White Chunky Heels

Who am I to judge a chunky heel?  πŸ‘€ Welcome to my blog! I'm sure I'll just ramble a lot here. Bring you into my introverted world, which means I'll start most of my sentences: "I saw this on TikTok" or "According to TikTok," but that's entertaining, right?  I'm currently in the querying trenches with my novel When Grace Fell, a new-wave horror novel about a young girl haunted by her best friend. It's a rough game, let me tell ya! I'm also trying to make a functional website...could use some help on that one in all honesty! Anyway, stick around. Maybe I'll say something funny and/or informative! -C
