The Writer's Hotel (and Other Things Like Cheddar in the Clam Chowder)

At the beginning of June, I attended The Writer's Hotel in Phippsburg, MA. This was my first trip to Maine. It very much reminded me of home in the PNW (well, in some ways) with all the green and water. It is always nice to get away from the City and its busyness. I was in Elizabeth Hand's group, where I workshopped the first pages of my newest novel and got some great feedback. Naturally, I'm excited to dive back into this horror/thriller and keep it moving!

I also participated in the reading, after chickening out on my assigned night. It happens. It's not that I have stage fright (I do). It's mostly that I hate being perceived, which makes life difficult at times. In all honesty, I probably would have been fine if it were karaoke night. I do love me some karaoke.

Also, in exciting news, I've been asked back to The Writer's Hotel 2026 as a TA! I'm so excited for this opportunity and can't wait to get back to Maine next year!

Now on to the chowdah. Clam Chowder is my favorite, favorite thing to get at seafood restaurants ever since I was little. So, ya know, I had to get it everywhere I went in Maine (and Logan Airport). I've now discovered that there is, in fact, a difference between West Coast and East Coast chowder. And that's about all I'm gonna say about it. I will however say—to the resturant that put cheddar in the chowder...you're on my freakin' list...and it's not the good one!

(Also, am I the only person who misses Skippers something fierce?)
